YOUR CHILD'S DENTAL CARE

Children are born free of dental disease, yet by adulthood 95% of the population has active gum disease and most people have experienced some tooth decay and even tooth loss. It is our belief that disease can be prevented. Our aim is to provide your child with the best dental care available to secure their dental health. We ask parents to register their children from birth so that we can see them, initially twice a year on the NHS, but then later follow the National NICE guidelines, to help them grow up free from dental disease. We aim to issue a Passport to every child registering with us so that they can be followed upto adulthood. However, if they do need treatment, we can offer them alternatives not generally available on the NHS, such as mercury-free white fillings.

Regular dental appointments help to provide:

  • Clinical examinations
  • Checking for signs of oral cancer
  • X-rays where clinically necessary
  • Scale and polish
  • Periodontal advice
  • Preventative techniques to reduce decay and gum disease
  • Assessment of emergencies and dental pain with any temporary treatment required, carried out at the practice during normal surgery hours.
  • All treatment planning for your future dental needs
  • Production of study models when required
  • All subsequent remedial work within 12 months of recommended restorative work.

Our practice is fully accessible for disabled patients. We have agreed with Croydon PCT to provide services for all patients. We have to inform you however that the number of patients who can be seen for the NHS Treatment has been severely limited by the new Dental Contract. You will probably have read a great deal about it in the media. We can only see and treat approximately a third of patients we used to see and treat before on the NHS. We apologise in advance if this inconveniences you but we are only now able to do treatment within strict capacity limits. Hopefully, this will change if more patients make representations to the right people. If you are a fee paying patient, it will now be much easier for you to be seen and treated at short notice should you so decide it. For an initial consultation for private and/or fee paying and/or emergency treatment, there is an assessment charge of £30.00. This will be credited towards a course of treatment should you decide to have one. You will be given a written estimate and options explained to you at your initial visit. For NHS patients, exempt or otherwise, a similar breakdown and options will be discussed with you by the use of a Personal Dental Treatment Plan - an FP17DC.

NHS dental treatment includes all treatment that is necessay to secure and maintain your oral health and which you are willing to undergo. We also provide a full range of private treatment options for patients who choose to have treatment that is not available under the NHS for example large white fillings in back teeth or cosmetic treatment. These can now be done at the same time as your NHS treatment provided you consent to it. We will always get your written permission before commencing any Private treatment, if you are an NHS patient.

If you ask us for an appointment, we will try and offer you one as soon as possible at a convenient time as per the Surgery Hours. At the end of your treatment, your dentist will discuss with you when you will need to see a dentist again, or if you have to be referred elsewhere for any further specialised treatment. It is now compulsory for NHS dentists to follow the guildelines issued by NICE. This means that you will attend as often as is needed to keep your teeth and gums healthy and may no longer need six monthly check-ups.

If you are unable to keep your appointment, please give us at least twenty four hours notice. Missed appointments waste NHS time and money and also other patients are inconvenienced who could have taken up the missed appointment.
